Pocono Preview - Brendan Gaughan

Posted by lori in Untagged

Gaughan Racing South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra at Pocono

 - Gaughan drives the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra

 - He is an 8-time winner in the Truck Series

 - He holds two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Titles

 - Gaughan won in the GT class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year

 - Gaughan has never competed in a Truck Series event at Pocono, but he has 2 Cup starts there

Mooresville, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2011) - Pocono Raceway is known to NASCAR fans as the tricky triangle. The oval course has three turns, instead of four, and it boasts exciting action because of the unique corners, long straightaways and subsequent high speeds. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to Pocono for its second race and Brendan Gaughan will race the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra there in his first Truck Series race at the ‘triangle.’

“It’s been a while since I’ve actually raced Pocono Raceway. Back when I drove it, we shifted and ran a ridiculously high RPM. I really like it. There’s one flat turn that reminds you of a St. Louis or Milwaukee only about 30 miles per hour faster. The tunnel turn— if you hit the curbing on the inside too hard it’s like an off-road jump. When you are on the front straightaway, all you see in front of you is wall at the end and it looks like there’s no way you will be able to make the turn. It’s exciting that the Trucks get to race there and I’m looking forward to seeing what our South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra will do,” said Gaughan who had two appearances at Pocono in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Gaughan has been racing in the Truck Series for many years, but he was on full-time assignment in the NASCAR Nationwide Series last season when the Trucks made their debut at Pocono. The 50-lap Pocono 125 shootout will be an new experience for the Las Vegas native.

Chassis TRD-026 has been chosen for Gaughan to race at Pocono. Gaughan has scored his top-five and all of his top-ten finishes this season in this Tundra. His best finish is third at Kentucky Speedway.

Watch Gaughan in the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra at Nashville Pocono Raceway on SPEED. Practice airs at 2:00 PM ET on Friday, August 5th. Qualifying airs at 9:30 AM Saturday, August 6th with racing action at 1:00 PM. Tune in early to catch the NCWTS Setup at 12:30 PM. Not in front of a TV? Brendan Gaughan holds eight Truck Series victories to go along with his two K&N Pro Series West championship titles. He currently ranks 11th in the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver’s points standings, just 79 points out of first place.

Indy Race Report: GEICO Camry

Posted by lori in Untagged

MEARS AND THE GECKO TURN HEADS IN EXCITING INDY WEEKEND

Speedway, IN (July 31, 2011) – Indianapolis Motor Speedway is known as the most sacred place in motorsports.  It is a facility that has both made careers and broken them; made poor people rich, and vice versa.  Few people know better than Casey Mears how revered Indianapolis is among the racing community.  In a sense, Indianapolis is a family affair for the Bakersfield, CA, native, as his Uncle, Rick Mears, has recorded four Indianapolis 500 wins at the Brickyard.

While Mears and his #13 GEICO Camry got off to a slow start in practice on Friday, landing 38th on the speed chart, they would quickly turn the corner and wow the fans as the day wore on.  During the second practice session, Mears hung out in the 20’s on the charts, but after a brief meeting with crew chief Bootie Barker and engineer Scott Whitehead during a trip to the garage, Mears re-entered the GEICO Camry for a final run.

With just seven minutes remaining in practice, Mears took to the famed speedway and drew a roar from the crowd when he instantly shot to 2nd on the speed chart.  He would ultimately end up 4th when the session ended.  Final practice saw more of the same from Mears and the GEICO Racing team, as they sat 18th at its conclusion.

Having set the IMS track qualifying record in 2004, Mears appeared confident as he calmly climbed into the #13 GEICO Camry and directed his car onto the racetrack for two laps of qualifying.  Mears’ success was audible, as the crowd cheered loudly when he wheeled around the historic 2.5-mile speedway in just 49.444 seconds, at a rate of speed of 182.024 miles per hour, landing him on the provisional pole.  Mears resided on the pole for 17 cars until his close friend Jimmie Johnson bumped him down to 2nd.  When qualifying ended, Mears and the #13 GEICO Camry found themselves in the 11th position, their best qualifying effort of the 2011 season.

When raceday arrived, it was met with bright sunshine and blazing heat, which would take its toll on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series field, as well as the fans in attendance.  Mears’ brought a taste of home with him, as his father, Roger, a four-time off-road racing champion, would be his spotter on the frontstretch for the afternoon, while Jason Jarrett would cover the backstretch duties.

Starting 11th, Mears radioed in on lap three: “On the run down the straightaways I’m getting killed.”  He would free-fall through the field and eventually land in 28th, but he rebounded quickly and by lap 27 he found himself in the 12th position.

Unfortunately, as cars got three wide on Lap 40, grass would fly up from the apron and attach itself to the grill of the #13 GEICO Camry, forcing Mears down pit road for an unscheduled green flag pit stop on Lap 41.  As temperatures rose, it became necessary to clean the grass from the grill, causing Mears to fall back to 34th position.

Lap 49 saw David Reutimann take a hard hit into the wall, causing the caution flag to be displayed.  Mears was in the 30th position and took advantage of the opportunity to visit pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments.  On lap 62, Mears radioed to Barker: “I’m still getting beat on the straights, but the car feels much better.”  He cracked the Top 30 on lap 72 and entered the Top 25 on lap 78 when he moved into the 24th position.

A lap 94 caution once again allowed the Germain Racing pit crew the opportunity to continue working on the handling of the #13 GEICO Camry.  After entering pit road in 30th, the GEICO crew turned Mears around quickly and returned him to the racing surface in the 25th position, netting five spots during his visit.

Mears and the #13 GEICO Camry climbed back into the Top 15 by lap 122, but as the race began to wind down Barker notified his driver that he would be five laps short on fuel, a dilemma facing much of the field.  With just 27 laps remaining in the advertised distance, Mears brought his #13 GEICO Camry down pit road amid green flag conditions to take on the necessary fuel to ensure his completion of the race.

When the checkered flag was displayed late Sunday afternoon, Mears and the GEICO team recorded a 29th place finish in the Brickyard 400.  Mears’ effort helped to widen the gap in the owner standings and Germain Racing now sits 43 points inside the coveted Top 35.

“This GEICO team has been working so hard and they gave me a good car today, but we struggled down the straightaways, which hurt us,” a sweaty Mears said after climbing from the #13 GEICO Camry.  “What a great weekend though.  We come out in practice and sit fourth and then we qualify 11th, so we’re obviously moving in the right direction.  We’ve had a pretty good month when you think about how well we ran at Daytona and then we had a decent night at Kentucky.  Our hard work is really paying off and I’m excited about moving forward.”

Big Red/International Trucks Tundra, Bodine, IRP Preview

Posted by lori in Untagged

Bodine Hopes Big Red/International Trucks Tundra Race Isn’t Last Truck Series Event at IRP

 - Bodine, with two championships, is the reigning Truck Series champ

 - The Chemung, NY, native has 36 NASCAR victories, 21 in Trucks

 - He has led 23 laps and scored 3 top-10s at IRP in Trucks

Mooresville, N.C. (July 27, 2011) - It’s been nearly two months since a Big Red Tundra has roared in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the last being Germain Racing’s Brendan Gaughan in June at Texas Motor Speedway. This Friday, for what many fear is the final NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the storied Indianapolis Raceway Park, Germain Racing driver Todd Bodine will wheel the No. 5 Big Red/International Trucks Tundra for Randy Moss Motorsports.

“IRP is one of those tracks that’s a tough, old short track. There’s a lot of beating and banging and you’ve got to have a Tundra that handles well to get it done. I’ve had good runs, bad runs and we’re going back this time with different ideas and a different truck. I think the Big Red/International Trucks Tundra will be good. We’re going there with intentions to win. We’ll have Big Red on our truck for the first time this season. Brendan has worn the stickers once in their home state of Texas, but this will be our first time with them and we hope to give them a great race Friday night,” said Bodine, who loves the tough, gritty, Indy track.

He told the viewers of Wind Tunnel this week how he truly hopes NASCAR and IRP can figure out a way to continue putting on great races together in the future. “I’m disappointed about the thought of the track losing its Truck Series event. It’s been part of NASCAR history for a long time. It’d be a crying shame to have this be the last NASCAR weekend at IRP.”

Bodine has no short track wins in the Truck Series. His shortest track with a win is Phoenix. However, he’s been to victory lane in the Nationwide Series at tracks like South Boston and Bristol. He and crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. would be thrilled to tears to win at such a famed short track as IRP.

Watch Bodine in the No. 5 Big Red/International Trucks Tundra on SPEED on Friday, July 29th. Qualifying airs at 4:30 PM ET. Live race coverage begins with the NCWTS Setup at 7:00 PM Eastern followed by live racing at 7:30 PM. Not in front of a TV? Tune your radio to your local MRN affiliate.

USAF CCT Tundra for Gaughan at IRP

Posted by lori in Untagged

Gaughan in Camouflaged Air Force Combat Control Team Tundra at IRP

·         Gaughan drives the No. 62 Tundra for Germain Racing

·         He is an 8-time winner in the Truck Series

·         He holds two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Titles

·         Gaughan won in the GT class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year

·         Gaughan has 6 NCWTS races at IRP and 2 NNS races

Mooresville, N.C. (July 27, 2011) - Brendan Gaughan is a person who thrives on being very busy. It makes one wonder why Gaughan doesn’t love all short track racing as much as he loves what .686-mile Indianapolis Raceway Park has to offer. Gaughan didn’t grow up racing short tracks as many of his fellow NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitors, so, the style of racing simply isn’t natural to him. But, IRP’s high-groove, high-action racing converts Gaughan into a huge short track fan once per season.

“I really hope it is not the last NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. That would really kill me. The two short tracks I really have run the best at – one being Memphis, which is off the schedule, and now this possibility of no more IRP races...Hopefully they don’t take it off the schedule. It’s a great track, with a high groove. It fits my style. We’ve always had good runs there. Hopefully it’s not the last event. If it is, I wanna go out with a bang and go out with a ‘W’ in our Air Force Combat Control Team Tundra,” said Gaughan.

Gaughan normally displays the black, red and gold colors of South Point Hotel & Casino on his No. 62 Toyota. For IRP, his truck will be low-profile in camouflage with a big, personal meaning.

“Our paint scheme on the No. 62 Tundra this week is going to feature the Air Force Combat Control Team. Master Sergeant Phillip Freeman, whose call-sign is ‘PIMP,’ is retiring in early August after many years of active duty and many tours. I’m really excited to do this with him, and with the Combat Controllers. It’s a full-camo paint scheme. My dad, myself, the South Point Hotel & Casino—we all do a lot to be involved with the military. We appreciate the military. If we can get a ‘W’ with the special paint scheme we might have to run it more than once,” said Gaughan.

Bodine, No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra, Nashville Preview

Posted by lori in Untagged

  • This Week’s Tundra… The No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team and driver Todd Bodine will race GR-018 in Friday’s 150-lap NCWTS race at Nashville Superspeedway.  Chassis GR-018 is a brand new race truck from the Germain Racing stable.  Mike Hillman, Jr., will be atop the pit box calling the shots for the defending series champion as this marks the second week of a collaborative effort between Germain Racing and Randy Moss Motorsports to field the No. 5 Tundra.

  • Bodine Shines at Nashville… Bodine scored his 19th career Camping World Truck Series victory at Nashville Superspeedway last August, winning from the pole position (91 laps led).  Besides completing every lap of competition in his eight previous starts at Nashville, Bodine has also accrued the most points of any driver (381) in the last three truck series races at Nashville Superspeedway.  Bodine is also tied for the most top-fives (5) and poles (2) at Nashville Superspeedway in series history.

  • Picking up Points… With his 10th-place finish last weekend at Iowa, Bodine maintained 11th-place standing in the driver points, but closed within three points of the top 10, and is 76 points out of the lead heading into the 12th race of the 25-race season.

  • Watch and Listen… The Lucas Deep Clean 200 from Nashville Superspeedway will be broadcast live on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90, on Friday night.  SPEED kicks off its pre-race coverage at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and MRN Radio will begin its live broadcast at 7:45 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 22.  Friday afternoon will also feature a live television broadcast of qualifying at 5:00 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel.

Todd Bodine on driving at Nashville Superspeedway

“I’m looking forward to going back to Nashville Superspeedway. We had a great run there last year. We were able to get the guitar finally. We’re going there with a brand new truck. I think we’ve got a good handle on the track and we’re looking to get International a win.

“International has a big hospitality at Nashville. It’s something we haven’t had the opportunity to deal with in a long time, so we’re excited about the opportunity to race for International and to meet their associates. The best way to start off the relationship great is to do it with a win.

“Nashville races like a mile and a half which our team excels on. It’s really a driver’s track and how the driver approaches it and finesses it translates into results. It’s fun to race. Our team has a good setup for the concrete surface which gives us all a lot of confidence heading into the weekend. “

South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra: Nashville Preview

Gaughan Takes South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra Back to Nashville

 - Gaughan drives the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra

 - He is an 8-time winner in the Truck Series

 - He holds two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Titles

 - Gaughan won in the GT class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year

 - Gaughan has 7 NCWTS races at Nashville and has completed 1051 of 1052 laps

Mooresville, N.C. (July 21, 2011) - Nashville Superspeedway us up on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule for the second time this season. In race 5 on the schedule, Brendan Gaughan qualified 22nd, spent most of the race competing just outside the top-ten in eleventh place only to have the day’s hard work wrapped up in someone else’s crash just 12 laps shy of the finish.

“Nashville is a good track for Germain Racing. We just came back from there earlier this year and the South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra handled very well. We got hit when another truck spun late in the race and collected us. There wasn’t a lot of time to come back from that, but we managed to finish 17th. I know the No. 62 team is looking forward to another chance at Nashville,” said Gaughan.

In April, Gaughan was caught up with the spinning no. 63 truck on lap 138. He fell from just outside the top-ten to 25th, the last truck on the lead lap. His crew patched up the No. 62 Toyota and Gaughan was able to pick off eight positions in the final six green flag laps of the race.

“If you are a Germain Racing driver, you have to have confidence when you are heading into a Nashville race weekend. The team has a great feel for tracks within the mile and a half range. From what we saw with our Toyota there in the spring, I know I’m looking forward to racing there Friday night,” said Gaughan.

Gaughan will race chassis TRD-122. The truck has been to victory lane with Todd Bodine (Darlington, 2010), and has also been driven by Justin Lofton. The chassis has been a go-to truck in the Germain Racing fleet since June of 2008.

Watch Gaughan in the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra on Friday, July 22nd, at Nashville Superspeedway on SPEED. Qualifying airs at 5:15 PM Eastern, with racing action at 8:00 PM. Gaughan at Iowa Speedway

Posted by lori in Untagged

Iowa Speedway Next for Gaughan, South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra

 - Gaughan drives the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra

 - He is an 8-time winner in the Truck Series

 - He holds two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Titles

 - Gaughan won in the GT class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year

Mooresville, N.C. (July 14, 2011) - Brendan Gaughan has a great winning memory of Kentucky Speedway. Unfortunately, the memory is of someone else’s trip to the winner’s circle instead of his own. Gaughan has led laps before the Kentucky Speedway fans, he’s dominated races, and he’s been a top-contender in both NASCAR Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. This weekend, he hopes he and his Germain Racing crew can put the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra in contention for his ninth Truck Series win—his first at Kentucky.

“Kentucky, even in the Nationwide Series, has always been a good track for me. This race is one of the races that my team has really looked forward to on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule,” explained Gaughan, who will race Tundra chassis TRD-026 at Kentucky. “With the way we were able to get our South Point Hotel & Casino Toyota running at Kansas, Charlotte and even Texas, I know what we are capable of as a team and I’m anxious to see what we can do at Kentucky Speedway.”

Gaughan finished fourth in both of his NNS races at Kentucky, but what he remembers most about the track will always be Carl Edwards first NASCAR career win.

“A Kentucky Speedway memory I’ll never forget was 2003. I led 66 laps, we had the race won. We were coming to the checkered flag but we blew a motor going down the back straightaway. It put me into a 360-degree spin, and Carl Edwards just missed us when we blew up. I managed to coast all the way into the garage while Carl took the win for his first Truck Series win,” said Gaughan. “Kentucky has always been a great track for me. Our No. 62 Toyota should be strong. I’m confident our Germain Racing team will be tough to beat on Thursday night.”

Watch Gaughan in the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra on Thursday, July 7th, at Kentucky Speedway on SPEED. Qualifying airs at 6:00 PM Eastern on Thursday, with racing action at 8:00 PM ET, preceded by the NCWTS Setup at 7:30 PM. Not in front of a TV? Tune your radio to your local MRN affiliate.

Bodine, Germain Racing Crew at Iowa

Posted by lori in Untagged

RANDY MOSS MOTORSPORTS AND GERMAIN RACING ANNOUNCE COLLABORATIVE EFFORT THAT PUTS CHAMP BODINE IN NO. 5 INTERNATIONAL TRUCKS/MONACO RVs TUNDRA AT IOWA

STATESVILLE, N.C. (July 14, 2011) – Randy Moss Motorsports and Germain Racing today announced a collaborative effort that will have Todd Bodine as the driver of the No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra for this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.  Bodine, the two-time and defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, will pilot the No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra for this weekend’s Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee with Germain Racing’s veteran crew chief Mike Hillman Jr., leading the collaborative effort between fellow Toyota teams.

“We were presented with the opportunity to have Todd Bodine drive the No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra, and any time that you can put the reigning series champion behind the wheel, that’s going to be a positive,” stated Randy Moss Motorsports co-owner David Dollar.  “This is a collaborative effort between Randy Moss Motorsports and Germain Racing and just the latest example of one Toyota team helping another.  Todd’s been a longtime Toyota driver, bringing them their first championship in one of NASCAR’s three major touring series, and he’s a proven winner.  We look forward to helping Todd add to that win total, when he gets behind the wheel of the International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra for this weekend’s race in Iowa.”

In 175 truck series races, Bodine has amassed 21 victories in addition to his two series championships in his nine seasons of competition.

“Teaming up with NFL superstar Randy Moss and International is the perfect opportunity for me and the Germain Racing crew to continue to compete at a championship level in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series,” said Bodine, who heads into this weekend’s race 11th in points following a fourth-place finish last week at Kentucky Speedway.  “International Trucks and Monaco RVs have been big supporters of the Truck Series, and I couldn’t be more excited to go to Iowa after facing some uncertainty last week.  Bob Germain, David Dollar and the folks at TRD (Toyota Racing Development) helped put this deal together in a matter of days, and I look forward to building on last week’s fourth-place finish in Kentucky and continuing to march up the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings.”

“Collaboration is, and always has been the cornerstone of Navistar’s success. We collaborate every day with our International and Monaco Dealers to put forth the best lineup of Commercial Vehicles and RVs for the markets we serve,” said Matt Smela, Global Marketing Director, Navistar.  “We collaborate with our customers to help provide them with the best equipment and solutions that help their businesses grow.  That’s exactly what this opportunity presents, two outstanding organizations in Germain Racing and Randy Moss Motorsports, together extending our product messages - both on and off the track - to our dealers, customers and prospects. And to do it with an aggressive reigning Champion like Todd Bodine, that’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often.”

“Germain Racing is excited about the prospects of teaming up with Randy Moss Motorsports and International trucks to see Todd Bodine race the No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra at Iowa this weekend.” said Bob Germain Jr.,

president of Germain Racing.   “Germain Racing and Todd represented Georgia Boot, ‘America’s Hardest Working Boot,’ last week at Kentucky and it just seems natural to help represent the tough trucks built by International. Looking to the future, we have quite a few details to work out but I think this could be a win-win for both teams...we hope to keep Todd Bodine in a Tundra every race and get International and our other sponsors, Tire Kingdom/Service Central, Valvoline and Big Red to victory lane."

Details of the driver lineup for the remainder of the season will be announced at a later date.

Bodine Gets Hard Earned 4th Place at Kentucky in Georgia Boot Tundra

Bodine Gets Hard Earned 4th Place at Kentucky in Georgia Boot Tundra

Sparta, KY (07-07-2011) – It wouldn’t have been fitting for a Georgia Boot-sponsored Tundra to waltz easily into the limelight at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday night. So, Todd Bodine and the No. 30 crew took the ‘long way’ toward earning their fourth-place finish. From the drop of the green flag, Bodine explained that his Tundra wasn’t handling the way he needed it.  The Georgia Boot pit crew took several big swings at the chassis setup and pulled off some amazing pit stops doing it. The result was that Bodine started 20th and made consistent gains throughout the night to finish fourth.

“We worked hard tonight. Georgia Boot, America’s Hardest Working Boot, was with us here in Kentucky and we couldn’t let them down,” said Bodine, who started the night in 20th place and with the help of his Georgia Boot pit crew, made it up into the top-five by night’s end. “(Mike Hillman) Junior made some good calls and our crew did an awesome job with a lot of changes tonight. We made shock adjustments, air pressure adjustments, you name it, we did it. The Georgia Boot Tundra was the best there at the end. We were good in the middle, but then it got a little tight. At the end, we were pretty good and it was great to get a good finish for everyone at Georgia Boot.”

The defending race winners, crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. discussed the two-day race weekend.

“Kentucky has always been an interesting track for this No. 30 crew. We won there last year after spinning out halfway through the race. That’s how things seem to go for us there. Whatever we get, we have to earn at Kentucky. It’s great we were able to turn the hard work of this Georgia Boot pit crew into a strong, fourth-place finish for our new sponsor. If we had a few more laps without cautions there at the end, we may have been able to challenge for the lead, but our top-five with the Georgia Boot Tundra was a good team effort,” said Hillman, who’s led the team to three top-five and four top-ten finishes in seven races at Kentucky.

Georgia Boot is based out of nearby Nelsonville, OH, and there were several company guests in the pits, experiencing the adventures of the Georgia Boot Tundra crew first-hand. They witnessed arguably the best pit crew in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series make eight flawless pit stops that played a key role in the team’s fourth-place finish.

Bodine jumped two spots in the Truck Series standings to 11th following Kentucky’s race results.

Gaughan Finishes Third at Kentucky Speedway

Gaughan Finishes Third at Kentucky Speedway

Sparta, KY (07-07-2011) – Brendan Gaughan has had many great finishes at Kentucky Speedway, including two fourth-place results in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Thursday night, Gaughan ran into some difficulties in front of the 30,000 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series fans in attendance for the UNOH 225, but, with the help of his Germain Racing pit crew, the Las Vegas driver pushed the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra to its best finish of the 2011 season.

“I destroyed our South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra early in the race. I right-sided it in the turn four wall. I had the splitter tucked up under it. The Germain Racing pit crew did an amazing job getting the truck back together. I think it took five trips to pit road, but, they did it and then it was my turn to get to work making up ground on restarts. I learned restart tricks from the best when I first came to the Truck Series. Jack Sprague and Ron Hornaday Jr. showed me some old-school tricks that drivers just don’t use anymore. On two restarts I made it from eleventh to third – I passed everybody. I was in my favorite position - racing on the outside. I’m happy to come out of here with a third place finish and run to Iowa Speedway,” smiled Gaughan, who made a total of eight trips to pit road before the 225-mile race was complete.

Gaughan was all smiles after leading laps for the second race this season and earning his fourth top-ten finish. He enjoyed watching runner-up finisher Parker Kligerman battle the race winner in the closing laps, though he certainly considered that the rookie could make a mistake.

“Parker did a great job there at the end. I definitely knew he could’ve made the wrong decision and he and Kyle (Busch, race winner) could’ve wrecked each other and I could’ve scored the win. But, I am impressed. He made the right decisions and a lot of young drivers don’t make the right decisions anymore. It was nice to see that some do that and he got the great finish,” said Gaughan.

With the points race now a 60-point battle from first to Gaughan, the South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra crew and driver are anxious to get on track next weekend at Iowa Speedway. After ten of 25 races, Gaughan ranks tenth in Truck Series standings, 60 points behind the leader and a mere 25 points out of fifth place.
