Gaughan Scored Another 7th-place Finish Saturday at Kansas Speedway

Mooresville, NC (06-06-2011) – Brendan Gaughan pushed through intense heat in the cockpit of the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra to earn his second seventh-place finish of the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Saturday’s race at Kansas Speedway was held in the heat of the afternoon, with temperatures already in the mid-90’s. That was nothing compared to what Gaughan and his crew overcame.

“Our South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra was fast. We had a better Tundra -- probably a top-five – than we got to show. I think we were a little better than Kyle (Busch). I just overshot the pits which cost us a lot of time on pit road,” explained Gaughan. “We had a great comeback by the boys on pit road. That’s the way this Germain Racing team runs -- Todd (Bodine) and I finished top-10 and all four team Tundras are in one piece after the race. That’s what we needed to do heading into Texas.”

Gaughan described the extreme heat he faced during Saturday’s 167-lap race. The race, along with the upcoming Texas event, is tied for the longest race on the Truck Series schedule at 250.5 miles.

“We cracked an exhaust, I guess. The exhaust broke and they put a heat gun on my seat when I got out (after the race) and it said 220 degrees. So, they gave me some ice bags during the race. But, they broke open. You never want water in a seat. I don’t know if you remember watching Bugs Bunny when you were a kid -- Elmer Fudd used to always put him in a big pot and try to cook him. That’s what happens when you add water to a metal seat,” explained Gaughan, who, despite the discomfort, was very pleased with his Toyota’s performance and his team’s effort on Saturday.

Gaughan’s finished moved him up two spots to tenth in the Truck Series standings.

The next race is Friday, June 10th, at Texas Motor Speedway, where Gaughan will race the No. 62 Big Red Tundra.
