Germain Racing Proud to Celebrate 40th Cabernet Vintage with Caymus at Sonoma
Mooresville, NC (June 17, 2014) – Germain Racing is delighted to celebrate the 40th Vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon with Caymus Vineyards this weekend at Sonoma Raceway. Caymus is in its second season as an associate sponsor on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series No. 13 GEICO Chevrolet SS driven by Californian Casey Mears. In Sunday’s race, a special 40th Cabernet logo will appear on the rear quarter panels of the race car.
“With the release of Caymus Vineyards’ 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, we are celebrating our 40th vintage of producing Cabernet. This vintage is bottled in a limited-edition package that pays homage to our family history. In the fall of 1971, such a milestone was just a dream for my parents, Charlie and Lorna Wagner. In a bold move that impresses me to this day, they sat me down and asked me to join them in creating a new winery. We would name it Caymus, after the historical Mexican ‘Rancho Caymus’ of which our land is a part. My folks were 60 and 57 and I was 19. We would construct a small winery amongst the vineyards that my family had planted – we had 55 acres of vines when we embarked on the wine business. The 2012 vintage has turned into quite a year, with the good fortune of our 40th Anniversary coinciding with a great vintage in Napa Valley,” explained Chuck Wagner, Owner/Winemaker.
Germain Racing team owner Bob Germain is thrilled to be part of such a milestone for Caymus.
“To know the Wagner family is to really appreciate the love they put into their wines. Being able to celebrate such a significant milestone for Caymus Vineyards makes this weekend’s trip to Sonoma Raceway even more exciting,” said Germain.
The Sonoma 350 is a 350K/218.9-mile,110-lap event which will be live from Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA. The Wagners come from a long line of grape growers and winemakers with a farming legacy that can be traced back 156 years in the Napa Valley. It's been over 40 years since Charlie and Lorna Wagner, along with son, Chuck, founded Caymus Vineyards in Rutherford, Napa Valley and today the family is proud to showcase a collection of wine brands that have a reputation for quality and consistency, sourced from the premiere wine growing regions of California. Caymus has proven they are clear leaders as it is the only winery in the world to have been awarded the title of “Wine of the Year” by Wine Spectator, twice for their Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. From their ranch property purchased in 1941, Charlie Wagner, Sr. quickly gained a reputation as a skilled grape grower and home winemaker using grapes planted behind their farmhouse and today, Chuck Wagner continues to make world-renowned Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. His oldest son Charlie makes Mer Soleil Chardonnay in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County and Joseph makes Belle Glos Pinot Noir sourced from three prestigious coastal appellations of California. They also make Conundrum, which has set the benchmark for luxury California wine blends for over twenty years. Chuck’s daughter Jenny recently joined the family business as winemaker for Emmolo and has recently released her first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot from Napa Valley. Youngest daughter, Erin is enrolled in college.
