Concord, N.C. (May 31, 2010) – Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway was highlighted by NASCAR’s Nationwide Series Tech-Net Auto Service 300 on Saturday. Michael Annett and Germain Racing’s No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers team showcased St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® on the hood, deck lid and rear quarter panels of the No. 15 Camry at Charlotte to help raise awareness for St. Jude’s lifesaving mission.

Annett qualified 17th for the 200 lap Tech-Net Auto Service 300 and despite getting caught in a spin in an early race restart, brought his No. 15 St. Jude/Pilot Travel Centers car home to a 14th place finish, his third consecutive top-15 finish this season and second consecutive top-15 finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"It was great to be able to pay tribute to our armed forces and to support St. Jude in their mission to find cures and save children,"

Annett noted. "We had a good car all weekend, but after being turned on the restart on lap 8 we had to work our way out of a hole to gain our 14th place finish. The afternoon race was very different from our usual night race at Charlotte. Track conditions changed a lot during a run. It was a good points day for us and we’re looking forward to heading to Nashville Superpseedway next week in our No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota."

"Michael did a great job out there. It was hot, slick and there was some tough competition. We thought getting caught behind a slow car on that early restart would slow us down for the rest of the race, but this team never gives up. The guys on pit road repaired some left rear bumper damage and Michael did a heck of a job fighting his way back on the lead lap.

Track position was hard to come by, but Michael stayed strong running lap times as fast as the cars in the top-10," said crew chief Ryan Fugle.

Annett still stands 15th in NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings, just 33 points from the top-10.

Next up, the No. 15 Germain Racing team will travel to Music City USA for the second NASCAR Nationwide Series race this season hosted by Nashville Superspeedway. Annett finished ninth there in April’s Nashville 300 and looks to earn another respectable finish on the 1.333 mile D-shaped oval.

Watch and listen live to the NASCAR Nationwide Series Federated Auto Parts 300 on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and MRN Radio.

Concord, N.C. (May 26, 2010) – As Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR’s annual Memorial Day weekend of stock car racing competition, Michael Annett and Germain Racing’s No. 15 Nationwide Series team will help bring awareness to the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for Saturday’s Nationwide Series Tech-Net Auto Service 300.

The No. 15 Toyota Camry will feature the St. Jude logo on the hood, deck lid and rear quarter panels in support of St. Jude, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. Loyal sponsor, Pilot Travel Centers takes pride in supporting St. Jude and their mission of finding cures and saving children.

“As a strong advocate for St. Jude, I live every day looking for more ways to introduce to others St. Jude’s goals to cure childhood cancers and help children and families who are affected,” said Mark Hazelwood, executive vice president of Pilot Travel Centers. “For the past two years, our partnership with Michael Annett and Germain Racing has been a great adventure into NASCAR and the Nationwide Series, and we’re excited to further that by this show of support for St. Jude. We look forward to seeing the No. 15 St. Jude/Pilot Travel Centers car out on the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway this week.”

“We are very appreciative of Germain Racing, Pilot Travel Centers and Michael Annett for helping to bring awareness to St. Jude this weekend,” said Steele Ford, senior director of sports marketing of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude. “This is a great opportunity to share the lifesaving mission of St. Jude with the racing community.”

Bob Germain Jr., president of Germain Racing, is active in support of many childrens charities. When he learned of Pilot Travel Centers efforts to raise awareness of St. Jude, Germain was quick to offer the hood of the No. 15 Germain Racing Camry to help the cause.

“St. Jude makes a tremendous contribution toward helping juvenile patients overcome a variety of life-threatening diseases. Catastrophic childhood disease is a very personal subject for my wife and I as my stepdaughter, Sydney, suffers from juvenile diabetes. I’m very proud to have Germain Racing join Pilot Travel Centers in promoting awareness of St. Jude. I look forward to seeing the St. Jude/Pilot Travel Centers Camry on track at Charlotte this weekend,” said Germain.

Annett’s charitable outlook is the same, “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for organizations that support children. Every day I wear a ‘Will Power’ bracelet to support a family friend, six-year-old Will Krueger, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2008. I’m honored to be a part of this awareness effort and to support St.
Jude’s goals to help children win their health back.”

NASCAR Nationwide Series cars hit the banks of Charlotte Motor Speedway for practice on Thursday at 2 p.m. and final practice at 5:10 p.m.
Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 9:35 a.m. and the green flag drops for the start of the Tech-Net Auto Service 300 at 2:30 p.m. Practice, final practice and qualifying can be seen live on SPEED. Runner-up Bodine is Back on Top of Truck Series Championship Points Standings

Posted by lori in TRD , Toyota Tundra , Todd Bodine , Texas Motor Speedway , Steve Germain , NASCAR Camping World Truck Series , Germaincars.com , Germain.com , Germain Racing , Charlotte Motor Speedway

Concord, NC (05-22-2010) – After a three hour delay for rain, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series took to the track for 134 laps of racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Germain Racing’s Todd Bodine started ninth, worked his way to the lead and after a series of late-race caution flags, finished second to race winner and fellow Tundra driver Kyle Busch. Bodine’s second-place effort moved him back to the top of the Truck Series championship standings.

“We had a good run. We were too tight in practice and we fought it all practice. We were still too tight in the race and that’s why we just couldn’t quite carry the momentum that Kyle (Busch) could. But our Germain.com Tundra was good tonight. For us, as a team, it was a great night because we’ve struggled all season with this new generation tire that Goodyear’s got and the way our trucks are driving with it. The team worked hard looking through notes and looking through data trying to figure out how to get the 30 truck to where I could drive it and they did. They got it fixed. Tonight we ran with the leaders and it was great to have fun and be so competitive tonight,” said Bodine.

The Germain.com Tundra crew has delivered fast trucks to the track each week, which is why the team has six top-five finishes in seven races this season. The fast trucks and fast pit work came together at Charlotte for a very strong team effort.

"We were there tonight. With the changes we were able to make for Todd to the truck, the great pit stops – we had the Germain.com Tundra where we needed it to be and we were fighting for the win. When the green flag waved for the green/white/checkered finish, it was anyone’s race to win between Kyle, Todd and Ron. This Germain Racing Tundra was in championship form tonight and Todd Bodine drove a great race,” said crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.

Bodine explained that his return to the top of the points standings was a team effort.

“We were in the points lead and we came out of Martinsville with the one finish we’ve had this year outside the top-five and that finish, 30th, cost us the points lead. This Germain Racing team has been working hard. Like at Dover last week, we didn’t have a truck to win the race, but we still got a fifth. That’s how you win points championships is to take a truck that can’t win but still finish in the top-five. Here at Charlotte tonight we had a good truck and finished second. It was a good night,” said Bodine, obviously proud of the work he and the Germain.com Tundra crew have put into to return to the top of the Truck Series standings.

The next race on the Truck Series schedule is Friday night, June 4th, at a track where Germain Racing has been to victory lane six times, five with Bodine - Texas Motor Speedway. Watch the exciting action live on SPEED starting at 8:30 PM ET.

Max Papis Prepares for Charlotte’s Festival Atmosphere and Highly Contrasting Races—Sprint All Star and Coca-Cola 600

Posted by lori in TRD , Toyota Camry , NASCAR Sprint Cup Series , Max Papis , Germain Racing , Germain Motor Company , GEICOgarage , GEICO Racing , GEICO , Charlotte Motor Speedway , Bob Germain

Germain Racing Press Release

May 19, 2010 (Mooresville, N.C.) - Max Papis has raced the Nurburgring. He’s raced the Hockenheimring. He’s raced been to victory lane at Laguna Seca, Homestead and Portland. But the mention of racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway sets the Italian from Como beaming with pride and anticipation. Papis calls the Charlotte metropolitan area home and a home must be vigorously defended. It might not be an all out turf war, but racing for bragging rights in front of the hometown crowd at Charlotte Motor Speedway is as important to Max Papis as it is to his gas man and his crew chief and everyone on the Germain Racing No. 13 GEICO Camry team.

“Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600 is one of the truly big events in NASCAR and in racing. It compares to the Daytona 500, to racing at the Brickyard and it compares to the Indianapolis 500 where my GEICO Racing teammate Paul Tracy will compete,” explains Papis. “We will race the GEICO Camry at Charlotte in two very different events. The All-Star Showdown structure is such that you have no worries about points positions—you are essentially equal to your competitors and you are there just to race and not worry about points during qualifying. The Showdown is very intense—it’s two 20-lap segments but it feels like the last 10 laps of the 600.”
Papis and his family have called the Charlotte area home for several years, and he explained that racing before a hometown crowd is special not just for him, but because it’s home for his crew members, too.

“Charlotte Motor Speedway has a special feeling for me. It reminds me a little bit of when I raced in Monza. That track was 40 minutes from my house, as Charlotte is. It really gives me an extra sense of pride for me and for the GEICO Camry crew members who also have family and friends at the track to see them,” said Papis. “Everyone wants to have bragging rights from racing at Charlotte, and I want to give those to my GEICO Camry crew.”
When Papis first came to Charlotte Motor Speedway, he was walking the infield to meet team owners and drivers. Now, he walks the infield in his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver’s suit, preparing to race the GEICO Camry.

“So many times I have been to Charlotte just to watch the race and to meet people, that the track has very special meaning for me when I get to go back as a NASCAR driver in the GEICO Camry,” said Papis. “I finally have the  opportunity to participate in the Coca-Cola 600.  I have kind of looked on from the outside for so many races, it is pretty special to be able to compete there. I can see the pride in all of the Germain Racing guys. It’s just a very unique and important weekend for our team and for the NASCAR community.”

While the All Star Showdown is two twenty lap events followed by the All Star race which is four segments (50/20/20/10 laps), the Coca-Cola 600 is a grueling 400 lap event covering 600 miles—the longest event in NASCAR, and it’s at a very impressive venue.

“Getting around Charlotte is very intense. It is a driver’s race track, with multiple grooves and an almost overwhelming coliseum feeling. It’s a huge facility and the track is one of the best representations of what NASCAR is,” explained Papis.

SPEED Channel will cover the All-Star Showdown  practices, qualifying and race as well as the All Star Race. Practice coverage begins at noon Eastern, the Showdown begins at 6:00 PM.

Bodine, Germain.com Tundra Head to Charlotte Motor Speedway Just 27 Points out of Truck Series Points Lead

Posted by im_admin in TRD , Toyota Tundra , Todd Bodine , NASCAR Camping World Truck Series , Germaincars.com , Germain.com , Germain Racing , Germain Motor Company , Charlotte Motor Speedway

May 18, 2010 (Mooresville, N.C.) - Nearly 25-percent of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule is completed as the trucks are poised for racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night for 134 laps of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Todd Bodine will drive the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra for Germain Racing. He and the team have captured five top-five finishes in six races this season, and currently rank second in the drivers’ championship standings.

“The No. 30 Germain.com Tundra team has done pretty well this season,” explains Bodine of the year-to-date performance. “We haven’t gotten to victory lane yet, but we’ve been running well and we’ve overcome some adversity to get good finishes. The 30th-place finish at Martinsville took us out of the points lead, but we’re gaining back. Every week we bring the Germain.com Tundra to the track with one goal in mind of winning the race. That’s definitely the goal at Charlotte. I’ve always run well there; I’ve won there, just not in a points race.”

Driver Todd Bodine has competed in 49 points races at Charlotte Motor Speedway in four of NASCAR’s divisions.

“I’m one of few drivers who can say they’ve run in four NASCAR series at Charlotte. I’ve raced in Cup, Nationwide, and Truck Series and also in what was called the Sportsman Series,” explained Bodine who has been to Charlotte’s Victory Lane after winning qualifying races for what is now called the All Star race.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is the home track for many race teams, and a home away from home for many race fans as there are nearly endless possibilities of things to do such as the downtown fan fest, two weeks of racing at Charlotte, race shops to tour and outlet shopping.

“There’s a lot to love about working for a competitive, championship team like Germain Racing. We currently compete in four NASCAR series and travel to many great cities. But Charlotte Motor Speedway has a special place in my heart because it means I get to see my wife and children in the morning before I go to the track, and I get to come home to them at night. With family time like that, it’d be hard to knock Charlotte off of the top of the list of my favorite tracks,” said crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.

Germain Racing has chosen chassis TRD-131 to race at Charlotte. The truck has raced this season at Nashville and Kansas earning two top-five finishes.

After six races, the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra ranks fourth in Truck Series owner’s standings and Bodine ranks second in the driver’s standings.

Race number seven of the schedule is Friday night, May 21st, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Watch all of the Charlotte action live on SPEED – first practice at 9:00 AM, final practice at 10:20 AM, qualifying at 3:30 PM with racing coverage beginning at 7:30 PM ET. The race will also be broadcast by your local MRN affiliate.

QUOTES:  Todd Bodine on Charlotte Motor Speedway

What makes Charlotte Motor Speedway stand out from other tracks?

“Charlotte is a track where it is easy to over drive the corners, and the groove can move around a little bit, especially in turns three and four.  It’s a tricky race track. The thing that stands out the most is being able to sleep in my own bed at night – it might be my favorite feature.”

How many Series Have You Raced in at Charlotte?

“I’m one of the few drivers who can say they’ve run in four NASCAR series at Charlotte. I’ve raced in Cup, Nationwide and the Truck Series and also in the Sportsman Series. I ran four races in Sportsman with a best finish of second-place.”

QUOTES: Mike Hillman Jr. on Charlotte Motor Speedway

What’s the biggest factor in preparing for racing at Lowe’s?

“Family. Seriously, it’s knowing that when the racing is done, I’m going straight home to be with my family in my home.”
