As a former ice hockey defenseman for Team Illinois, Annett previously called Chicago home during his junior year of high school. Now off the ice and behind the wheel of a stock car, Annett will hit Chicagoland Speedway for his second career appearance on the 1.5 mile D-shaped oval. In a record-setting Nationwide Series race for the fewest cautions and fewest laps under caution, Annett started 18th and drove through the checkered flag to finish 17th in last season’s Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola.

In conjunction with race weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, the No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry show car will be making an appearance at the local Pilot Travel Centers location at 301 North Ridge Road in Minooka, Ill. on Thursday from 2-6 p.m. and Friday from 1-5 p.m. Annett will be on-site from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday to sign autographs for store customers.

Historic NNS New Car Race Yields 12th Place Finish to Michael Annett and No. 15 Germain Racing Team

Posted by lori in Sherwin Williams , Germain Racing

Daytona Beach, Fla. (July 3, 2010) At the halfway mark in his second full-season in NASCAR’s second tiered Nationwide Series, Michael Annett currently stands 12th in the points race after the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway. In the historic first race in the Nationwide Series new car, Annett qualified 17th and scored a 12th place finish after recovering from an early race spin.

Under the lights at the World Center of Racing, Annett pushed his way from his 17th place start into the top-10 by lap 14. Running in the seventh position, the former Daytona winner in the ARCA Racing Series got loose off of the exit of turn four on lap 32, bringing out the second caution of the event. Fortunately, no damage was caused to the No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry.

Coming to pit road twice under yellow, the No. 15 took four tires, fuel and put in a new right rear window to replace one that was blown out during the spin. Restarting 33rd on lap 36, Annett didn’t lose his determination and again shuffled his way through the pack and back into the top-20 by lap 42. Moving up 20 spots from his restart by lap 61, he continued to rebound and gain track position, although he was fighting a loose handling condition.

The caution was again displayed on lap 69 for debris, allowing Annett to come to pit road for service to his No. 15 Toyota Camry. He restarted 14th for a 25 lap shootout.

Still reporting the car being extremely loose, Annett held steady in the top-20 until relief came on lap 95, bringing out the final caution of the night. With a four tire change, air pressure adjustment and wedge adjustment, Annett was back on the track and ready to race for the green, white, checkered finish to the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola.

The No. 15 Germain.com Camry restarted 20th and crossed the finish line recording a 12th place finish, his second consecutive 12th place finish on Daytona’s legendary 2.5 mile tri-oval. His finish moved him two places in Nationwide Series championship point standings to 12th, 117 points outside of the top-10.

"I think every team out there wasn’t sure what to expect in the first Nationwide Series new car race. We were good in single car runs and in the draft during practice, so I felt good leading into Friday’s race," said Annett, "We had a good race car and we were really good through turns one and two. I’m glad we were able to salvage a respectable finish after that early spin and bring home a 12th place finish in our No. 15 Germain.com Camry. I’m so proud of all the guys for their hard work on getting this new car ready. They’ve put a lot into this. I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the new No. 15 Toyota at Michigan."

The second of four Nationwide Series new car races on the schedule for 2010 will be at Michigan International Raceway on August 14. In addition to Daytona and Michigan, the Nationwide Series events at Richmond International Raceway on September 10 and Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 15 will be Nationwide Series new car points races before the new car’s full integration into the series in 2011.

Next up on the Nationwide Series schedule is the Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola. Live race coverage from the Windy City can be seen and heard on ESPN and MRN Radio beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Germain Finished 16th in Road Course Debut at Lime Rock

Posted by lori in Sherwin Williams , Germain Racing

Mooresville, N.C. (07-05-2010) – In his first road course race, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie driver Zach Germain finished 16th in the No. 24 Germain.com Camry. The results were a handsome payoff for the 25 year-old from Columbus, Ohio, who finished just a couple spots behind some of the instructors that had tutored him on the mechanics of racing at the 1.54-mile Lime Rock Park circuit in Lakeville, CT.

“I really enjoyed my first road course race. It was an extreme challenge for my physical endurance and mental stamina, but I think our finish showed that the driver and the crew were up for the test. I prepared for the K&N 100 by attending the Skip Barber Racing School. Getting to know the course helped so that I could focus on technique and getting the car adjusted for the race. Tom Ackerman, our shock specialist on the No. 30 Germain.com Tundra, came to Lime Rock with us this weekend. He and the No. 24 Germain.com Camry team made some great adjustments to the car. It handled the right-hand turns very well,” said Germain who ranks 15th in the K&N Pro Series East points standings after six races.

The weekend kicked off with Germain hearing a new but very familiar voice on his team radio as he put the No. 24 Germain.com Camry in the top-20 on the practice charts.

“My dad did a great job in his spotting debut. He had no idea he was getting put to work when he got to the track, but we needed extra spotters for practice. He did a great job. When I heard his voice, it reminded me of the virtue that he and my mom preach to me when they are at the race track – patience,” smiled Germain. “After the first run in practice, I had a lot of confidence in our team and in what I’d learned about getting around the course. At other new tracks we’ve gone to, I’ve had to commit time in first practice to learning the lines around the track. At Lime Rock, I already knew the line from the Skip Barber school and it worked very well for the Germain.com Camry. I was comfortable in the car and could focus on pedal technique and positioning the car for each corner.”

The 66-lap race was slowed by only three cautions for a total of eight yellow-flag laps. The long green-flag runs allowed the 29-car field to space out over the mile and a half circuit.

“The long green flag runs worked out great. The field spaced out pretty quickly and I was able to get in the zone so well that the cars around me didn’t bother me at all,” explained Germain. “We had one bobble. I didn’t get the Germain.com Camry slowed down heading into the chicane on lap 35. I spun but was able to keep the car on course. It wouldn’t re-start and it cost us a couple laps waiting for a push-start. If there was a disappointing moment in the race weekend, I guess that was it. But, the weekend was a great experience. The guys did a great job with adjustments and we’re all anxious to get to our next race at Lee.”

Watch Saturday’s Lime Rock Park NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Thursday, July 8th at 6:00 PM on SPEED. The next race on the K&N Pro Series East schedule is July 30th at Lee USA Speedway.

Lime Rock Will Be First Road Course Race for Zach Germain

Posted by lori in Sherwin Williams , Germain Racing

Mooresville, N.C. (June 30, 2010) – Zach Germain is very pleased with the variety of race tracks that are represented by the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. The rookie driver will make his road course debut this weekend at Lime Rock Park, just a week after racing on the second of three Sprint Cup Series race tracks on the K&N Pro Series. Germain thinks his team is ready for the challenge of turning right and left at Lime Rock.

“With what this Germain.com Camry team has been able to accomplish in the last two races, I am very confident that we can have a good race weekend at Lime Rock. The track is another unique race course that is part of why the K&N Pro Series East has such a strong field of rookie contenders. Driving in this series gives sponsors exposure on SPEED and it gives drivers and teams experience with a wide variety of race tracks to prepare them for their NASCAR careers,” said Germain.

In preparation for the Lime Rock race weekend, Germain, a graduate of Miami University of Ohio,  has gone back to school.

“I’ve enrolled in the Skip Barber Racing School at Lime Rock and the program has been amazing. All of the tracks we race in the K&N Pro Series are new to me, so usually I will try to prepare on a simulator, or to go through notes from our Germain Racing teams.  For Lime Rock, the experience has been much different. We had classroom time, then ride-along time before we drove on the course. One of the Skip Barber instructors is a former East Series driver who has competed at Lime Rock, so the information I’ve been able to learn has given me a lot of comfort heading into the race weekend,” said Germain.

With Germain Racing’s No. 30 Germain.com Tundra team off this weekend, Tom Ackerman, shock specialist for the points-leading truck, will travel to Lime Rock to work with the No. 24 Germain.com Camry team.

“This will be the second time Tom has been a part of our race team this season. He came to Martinsville Speedway along with several of our teammates from the 30 truck. Tom has been a crew chief in the Truck Series, he’s won races, and he’s a tireless team player. I know the guys are excited about having him along this weekend at Lime Rock,” said Germain.

The Germain.com Camry races at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, July 3rd, at 2:15 PM Eastern. The race will be broadcast on SPEED on July 8th at 6:00 PM Eastern.

Germain Racing is a championship-winning organization competing in all three of NASCAR’s national series. Michael Annett Looking Forward to Nationwide Series New Car Debut at Daytona International SpeedwayBlog title (click to edit)

Posted by lori in Sherwin Williams , Germain Racing

Daytona Beach, Fla. (June 29, 2010) The NASCAR Nationwide Series new car will make its debut this weekend at legendary Daytona International Speedway in Friday’s Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola. Michael Annett, a former winner at Daytona in the ARCA Racing Series, will pilot the No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry for the inaugural Nationwide Series new car race, one of four on the Nationwide Series schedule for 2010.

In addition to this week’s Subway Jalapeno 250, the Nationwide Series events at Michigan International Speedway on August 14, Richmond International Speedway on September 10 and Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 15 will all be Nationwide Series new car points races before the new car’s full integration into the series in 2011.

In preparation for Friday’s race, the No. 15 Germain Racing team participated in NASCAR’s two day test of the new car at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday, May 19th. Of the 24 cars that completed the test, Annett was third fastest in the Tuesday morning session, 12th in the Tuesday afternoon session and sixth in the Wednesday morning session.

In response to the successful new car test in May, Annett said, "Overall, we had a productive test at Daytona back in May. We learned a lot about the new car, and it was really fun to drive. I’m excited about the new car bringing more tightened competition among all of the teams in the Nationwide Series. One of the best features about the new car is its look. Each manufacturer’s model has created a signature look, so the Toyota Camry now has its own identity. On the competition side, we unloaded a really comfortable and fast race car."

Statistically, Annett has shown great success on superspeedways with two wins tallied in the ARCA Racing Series at Daytona International Speedway

(2008) and Talladega Superspeedway (2007). In five career qualifying attempts at Daytona, Annett has started third (ARCA, 2008), fourth (ARCA, 2009), 18th (Nationwide Series, 2009), ninth (Nationwide Series, 2009) and 18th (Nationwide Series, 2010). He heads to Daytona on the heels of a 12th place finish in his most recent run on the 2.5 mile tri-oval in February’s Drive4COPD 300.

"Daytona has always been one of my favorite tracks, so I’m looking forward to the first race in the new car being on a superspeedway. We’ll be racing the new car on a variety of tracks this season, but Daytona will be our only superspeedway run," said Annett. "Not only have I run well at Daytona, but I enjoy everything about racing there. I’m really excited to get back on the track this week in the new No. 15 Toyota Camry."

An additional day of practice from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday will enable teams to have more time on the track in the Nationwide Series new cars to prepare for Friday’s race. Practice on Thursday begins at 2 p.m. and final practice gets underway at 5:30 p.m. Nationwide Series qualifying starts at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, and engines fire up for the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola at 8 p.m. Watch and listen live on ESPN and MRN Radio beginning at 7:30 p.m. All times are ET.

Germain Tackles Tough Oval with Best Qualifying Effort of Season

Posted by lori in Sherwin Williams , Germain Racing

Mooresville, N.C. (06-27-2010) – Zach Germain has completed competition on two very tough NASCAR Sprint Cup Series  race tracks and has earned a wealth of experience to use for his budding NASCAR career. In race number five on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule, Germain raced the No. 24 Germain.com Camry at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He earned his best qualifying spot of the season, 18th, and finished the 125-lap race in 17th.

“First of all, this Germain Racing team turned in another great performance. The Germain.com Camry we brought to the race track handled very well and we were able to earn our best qualifying effort of the season on a challenging, Sprint Cup Series race track. We ran through a 55-lap green flag run, which was a new experience for me. The car was very loose at the start of the race, then it got tight. The crew made good adjustments and kept making the Germain.com Camry better. All in all, it was a great effort and I’m very proud of this No. 24 team,” said Germain, who ranks 15th in the series standings after five races.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway provided rookie driver Germain and his team with another weekend of solid gains and solid experience.

“This weekend we knew there would be many opportunities to learn, and we were able to gain positive experience from every one of them. Our pit stops were very good. Whether we took fuel-only or tires, my team did great stops. I experienced several three-wide restarts, a lot of beating and banging and the long green flag run. We worked through a variety of handling conditions and I learned a lot about how my input into the steering wheel affects the handling of the car. New Hampshire is a track that is very ‘line-sensitive.’ I can’t wait to unload our Germain.com Camry at Lime Rock,” said Germain.

See the Germain.com Camry on national television. Friday’s K&N Pro Series East race from New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be broadcast on SPEED on Thursday, July 1st at 6:00 PM Eastern.

Lime Rock Park, the next race on the K&N Pro Series East schedule, is the only road course race of the season. Germain will race the No. 24 Germain.com Camry at the Connecticut facility on Saturday, July 3rd.

Germain Racing is a championship-winning organization competing in all three of NASCAR’s national series. Often described as "Martinsville on steroids", New Hampshire Motor Speedway can really be compared to no other track that NASCAR competes on.

Its unusual 1.058 mile oval is said to be the most unusual on the circuit.

Germain Racing will field three NASCAR sanctioned entries at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this week. In addition to Michael Annett’s No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Max Papis will pilot the team’s No. 13 Camry in the Sprint Cup Series and Zach Germain will compete in Friday’s K&N Pro Series East race in the No. 24 sponsored Camry.

After celebrating his 24th birthday (June 23), Annett will be making his third appearance on the New England track where he finished 19th in last years Nationwide Series Camping World RV Sales 200 presented by Turtle Wax. Heading into Saturday’s 175 lap race at the "Magic Mile," Annett is 14th in Nationwide Series points, just 104 markers outside of the top-10. Annett, who finished 10th in the Nationwide Series championship point standings in 2009, is focused on earning a top-10 finish and gaining valuable points to help move him into the top-10 points race.

Nationwide Series cars get on-track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday at 10:30 a.m. for practice. Final practice follows at 1:40 p.m.
