Midwestern Native Michael Annett Heads to Inaugural Road America RaceBlog title (click to edit)

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (June 16, 2010) NASCAR will make its inaugural appearance at Road America this weekend as the Nationwide Series competes in the Bucyrus 200 presented by Menards. With an open weekend in the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule where The Milwaukee Mile was formerly inserted, Road America jumped on board to host one of three road course races on the 2010 Nationwide Series schedule.

New to the 2010 Nationwide Series lineup, the 14 turn, 4.048 mile road course will be new and different to most of the 43 competitors on the entry list for the Bucyrus 200 presented by Menards.

Second year Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett made his road course debut at Watkins Glen International earning a 20th place finish in the August 2009 Zippo 200 at the Glen, while finishing 18th in his No. 15 HYPE Energy Toyota in the 2009 road course event at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

"My experience at Watkins Glen and Montreal last year definitely helped me get a better grasp for road course racing. Every course is different though, so Road America will be a whole new experience having never been there before," said Annett. "Our goal in both of last season’s road course races was to stay smooth and keep all four wheels on the track. Sticking to that objective paid off in two top-20 finishes, so I think if we follow through with that goal again at Road America, we’ll come out with a respectable finish."

Road America is an exclusive venue to the Nationwide Series this season, so it’s race that will spotlight the series, setting it apart from the Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series.

When Annett was asked about the series’ debut at Road America, he commented, "It’s exciting to see a new track added to our schedule this season. It says a lot for our sport to have so many great facilities spaced all throughout the country. I’m a Midwestern native from Des Moines, Iowa, so I’m excited to see another race in the Midwest added. I’m really looking forward the Road America event."

Road course racing at Road America begins on Thursday with practice from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and again from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Cars hit the track for another day of practice sessions on Friday from 2-3 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. Road course qualifying begins on Saturday at 10:35 a.m. and the green flag waves for the 50 lap Bucyrus 200 presented by Menards at 3:30 p.m. Watch and listen to live coverage of the race beginning at 3 p.m. on ESPN 2 and MRN Radio. All times ET.
